# Why does my Topology Optimization Result get rid of important areas on my design?

## Issue:

Why does my Topology Optimization Result get rid of important areas on my design?

Why is too much material removed when I run a Topology Optimization?

## Applies to:

* Topology Optimization

## Cause:

This can happen in areas of the model where you have Displacement Restraints, but no Forces. The algorithm running the topology optimization sees these areas as non-performing material, therefore removing the material.

## Solution:

Try these options to edit your Topology Optimization Result:

1. Take another look at the Boundary Conditions in your model and edit them if needed
2. Set up a Passive Region Constraint for the area that was removed
3. If using a Volume Fraction Constraint, edit the value so less material is removed

## Keywords:

*remove volume topology of optimization constraint restraint material materials displacement get issue too result rid excess much fraction*
