# I ran into "Failed to initialize OpenGL error"

## Issue:

Users have reported receiving a graphics driver error notification and encountering nTop to unexpectedly exit in specific contexts, despite their machines meeting the [minimum system specifications](https://support.ntopology.com/hc/articles/360061698333).

## Applies to:

![The Failed to Initialize OpenGL error message in nTop.](https://files.learn.ntop.com/help-articles/user-interface/7256192260243.png)

## Cause:

Different factors appear to compound, thereby increasing the likelihood of the seemingly unwarranted error:

* Resuming use of a running instance of nTop after waking the computer from a sleep state
* The installation of Windows “quality update” KB5013942
* The use of one or more monitors in portrait mode

## Solution:

If you restart your system, it alleviates the issue but does not guarantee that the same system state can be avoided in the future: if you encounter this error and know your system specs are adequate, it is recommended that you perform a Windows update.
