# Combined Approach

While Field Optimization offers novel capabilities in terms of performance optimization, you can use it in conjunction with traditional optimization strategies to design high-performing parts.

* Use historical knowledge and basic engineering principles to apply ***manual shape optimization*** to design and import CAD parts to optimize with shapes, aiding optimal performance.
* Run traditional ***topology optimization***on a part to approach an optimal shape before optimizing more complex parameters with Field Optimization.
