# Parametric FE Model
Since Field Optimization operates on domains whose material properties depend on design variables (**Parametric Domains**), an FE model with constant solid, beam, and shell geometry is no longer relevant. Instead, we use a **Parametric FE Model**to specify one or more of these Domains and their connectors.
