Question:

Can I turn a closed curve into a profile?

Applies to:

  • Implicit modeling
  • Modeling
  • nTop 5.20

Answer:

Yes, you can use the Profile from Curves block to create closed profiles from input curves. An example of an open profile in nTop. The Profile from Curves block has a warning icon that alerts the user that the profile is open. An example of a closed profile in nTop. The Profile from Curves block doesn't have a warning icon because the profile is closed. A Profile is a set of coplanar curves. It has two field properties: the first is the Signed Distance field to the infinite extrusion relative to the profile’s plane and the second is the unsigned distance field to the enclosed region.
A Profile can also be closed or open. If closed, it can have multiple loops (e.g. several circles inside a rectangle or the disconnected loops of a logo). Open profiles are semi-infinite and can be used in the same blocks as closed profiles.
